Trine

Yay for Indy games. You can go buy this one off steam for like 5 bucks.
Its seems as though the old platform games are making a comeback, although now people are actually pushing boundaries. Back in the day we were happy enough to play Jazz jackrabbit, crystal caves, Duke Nukem and other such games. There was little difference in these games, other than how they looked.
But now adays we have games like trine and braid on our hands. Trine is a puzzle game that uses gravity a lot. So you can be sure there will be lots of see-saws and falling shit. You can switch between three characters while playing (Mid jump even). You have your dexterious thief, your box congering wizard (Who can't shoot fireballs), and your rather boring warrior, who can swing a sword. Or a hammer if your lucky. I used my thief for the majority of my puzzle solutions, swinging around with her grapple hook. I guess its your play style that dictates how your going to get through a level. Some people might just be happy with making some boxes, impaling them on the spikes and hoping up them like a staircase. Its really up to you how you do it.
I like the fact that the game doesn't limit you. It feels likes its almost daring you to try to find a loop hole. (Like instead of climbing really high to get an item, just make a box behing it and telepathicly push the item off the ledge with the box.)
The game itself is short, but its fun the whole way through, even if they do start running out of ideas near the end. Its also really easy. But I enjoyed myself playing it. Ew. that sounded sorta like I touched myself while playing it.. Maybe I did. While watching that theif hop about.

World in conflict (PC)

I have been rather quiet lately on the game reviewing front, although in the past month or two I have bought more games than I ever have in my entire life.

World in conflict is as the title alludes, a world in conflict, World being of course, America. We fall into the story in about 1989-90. The ruskies and the 'mericans, and presumably everyone else are embroiled in world war three (The cold war heated up), at a nice safe distance in Europe. But low, on the horizon of seattles fair shores is some pissed off commies! The homeland is invaded!
I have been playing RTS games for ages. Starting off with probably warcraft II. And dude. Story lines have totally gotten better since then. Thank God. WiC is the first RTS I have played where there are actual individual people you get to know and sorta like. I found the storyline pretty awesome. The game felt very down to earth (You can zoom down that far if you wanted, but you can't see shit.)
You don't build factories and stuff in this one. Your mearly a commander of a unit of the army, ordering in your units when you need em. When they die their points go back into the pool, where it slowly gets dripped back into your usable pool. So no tedious resource gathering or the like. Just a herc or something flying over and airdropping your tanks and dudes.
You don't get the feeling your the only one in the sky. Often there are allied units flanking and helping take the village or whatever as well.
The camera is very free. You never keep it faced north like in most games, you just fling it around, swivvle it etc. If you get a bit bored you can zoom in on the tiny specks and go "oooh" at the fact they actually put detail into the tiny little troops that run around, duck, shoot, skip etc.
Overall I would say it was mint. It took me three days, on and off, to complete the campaign. So relatively short for an RTS, but apparently the multiplayer is cool to, being able to jump in on a game immediatly etc. But the CD key is really well hidden on this box 0_0. It doesnt ask you for a CD key till you try and take it to multiplayer. I guess I could use the key that came with the 10 day free trial cd that came with it.
Yea, as a marketing idea they include a trial version of the game to give to your mates. But it expires after they get hooked i guess, forcing them to go buy it.

At some point Ill probably get the expansion as well, which apparently follows the Russians and their stories. I think they could pull it off good. And undoubtedly it'l be like "gasp! The americans shot first!" or something to that effect.

MUD anyone?

A while ago I went through a stage of hunting around for a decent mud. I never found one. I played "hollow" for a while. But the game was so badly balanced that level progression was almost impossible. Later on I went and found achaea. But it just astounded me. I couldn't get the hang of it. Then someone recommended retro mud. I can't remember why I didn't like that one. But I didn't.
And then I found Daedal Macabre. Its not as detailed As the others. And mechanically it could be a lot better. But its the community of the game which makes it so awesome! A decent MUD can't function without a cool community. A lot of MMOs are notorious for shitty communities. No one wants to grind quest for ages, and on top of that have a twelve year old telling them that they know every sexual position ever created. Fortunatly it seems that MUDs are devoid of this younger age group. Its not so hard to guess why. At first glance a MUD looks as though its stepped back into the dark ages of DOS. Kids are going to compare this with the graphics of WoW and suddenly realize that MUDs are like school text books. While WoW looks like the latest Xmen comic.
The school text book has as much fun in it as a comic book does believe it or not. Whats the point on having a medieval world if your not going to act as though your in one. The roleplay aspect is so much fun.
Questing in Daedal can be regular, like your used to. Go over and kill someone. Go fetch me a rare gem from such and such. Or you can do investigations and take part in epic battles that help to further the plot line. It always pissed me off how Maple Stories catch phrase was like "Make your own story." How? Nothing you ever did made maple story any different. You couldn't make your mark on the world unless you could vac ac the entire world into one corner and kill everyone with one stroke. Oh wait, you can't PK. Boo.
But with Daedal you could actually become more than average and a necessary part to the game by doing the custom made quests that change according to what you do.

Fuckin check it out!

Habbo Hotel (An interview)

So Back in the day I joined up with Habbo hotel. I heard it was a fun place to wander around and mess with people. Great I love messing with people. Joined up. And everywhere I went there seemed to be people preoccupied, or just standing zombieish in hallways etc. rooms full of silent people, apart from maybe one or two. It was pretty sad really. The only person I could strike up a convo with was a dutch chick trying to learn english. When I asked for a pic all I got was a naked pic, hiding her face. I was rather aghast and asked if she minded showing that sorta thing off. She said it was from when she was young anyway and she didnt look like that anymore.
So I didn't go on habbo for many years. I decided to go back and conduct an interview with any random I could find. I found Kingkhalil. Here is the interview...

What is there actually to do on habbo hotel?
"annoy people"
thought so
"or in better terms, kick ass."
what are you doing on habbo?
"Kicking ass"
Do you think that everyone on this site are the most stuck up people on any sort of mmo
"Nope but because its really different Because this one is centered around social interactions, but in other mmos it is just a secondary.
but you'll find in other mmos that people will have prestige of a lot of things like lvl or weapons or whatever. Here all you can have is HC or an old account. I can still come and verbally kick ur ass. So I think that people are pretty equal as long as they can defend themselves verbally. While there are many hard factors in other mmo's dividing the mmo classes, here only varbality can bring them all down."

Man that was fun to write out
"what?"
This was an interview. Surprise!

So yea, its short. So sue me.
